Walker Chapel United Methodist Church

There is a new buzz of activity in Walker Chapel as we embrace the spirit of open doors, open hearts, open minds.  The Forum brought friends and neighbors in to hear from eloquent presenters who are leaders within their professions.  It also demonstrated the importance of the Chapel in the community as every presenter quickly accepted our invitation and volunteered their time to meet with us.  Aprilfest was a huge success, the Easter Egg Hunt was great fun, and the Stop Hunger Now day was a heartfelt expression by all ages, all people, and friends from Calloway UMC as we came together to prepare over 10,000 meals to feed those in need around the world.  Just the sheer determination in the faces of 5-year old’s as they carried food packages from table to boxing made you smile.

Now with summer coming the pace has historically slowed.  But not so this year!!!  Lessons learned from last year show we should not wait until September to formulate our initiatives for the new school year.  It takes three months to conceive, plan, recruit, and implement a new initiative.  So we are starting now to continue the initiatives of last year with slate of ideas that are built on forming special interest clubs that will be open to all members and the community and be fully active come September.  We will promote the clubs as we did the Forum and seek to bring in new people to join in our fellowship.

Inspiration Exchange

the role of the Chapel in the community is one that we assess as we follow the guidelines of the United Methodist Church and RETHINKCHURCH. As Pastor Mark Burgess said from the pulpit a few Sundays ago, the church is not the building, not the grounds and flowers, not the historic cemetery; the church is us. And we approach the world with open doors, open hearts, open minds as we play a meaningful role in our ever-changing society. Read More...
