Walker Chapel United Methodist Church

Book Club

Each summer we will be reading several books as we take a break from the normal adult Sunday School. Last year we read two books: When Jesus Became God by by Richard E. Rubenstein and How Jesus Became God by Bart D. Ehrman.   It was fascinating to both read the works and then hear from others their thoughts and interpretations. This year looks like it will be equally interesting as our Pastor, Mark Burgess, leads the way and we read The book of Job:  When Bad Things happen to Good People by Harold S. Kushner and Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoffer.  It is a rare opportunity to study with Mark as he is a true scholar and fluent in both Hebrew and Greek.

The concept for this club is to not stop at the end of summer but to continue on into the fall perhaps meeting on a weekday evening. The books to be read would be suggested by the members and the Pastor and seek to open doors, open hearts and open minds.
