Supporting Our Community & World

The act of giving shows our love for our community and world.  Each year Walker Chapel donates time, effort and money to vetted local charities and to international groups through the United Methodist Church.  The time and effort comes from us.  The money comes from Sunday collections, individual donations, special events like our Aprilfest and Octoberfest celebrations.  There many seasonal celebrations such as Lent, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  All collections and donations during these periods go to the benevolent pathways of the chapel.  It is truly a way you can ensure every dollar you donate goes to a worthwhile and vetted group.

Oktoberfest Fall Bazaar

October 28th 9:00am - 3:00pm

Each fall we take in clothes, jewelry, toys, and the treasures you no long need.  Then on one glorious day in October we have a huge bazaar with hot meals, a bakery sale, and music.  You can't beat it for cleaning out your closets, basement, garage and then having a fun time at the bazaar buying up everyone else's donations.  Best of all, the proceeds from the bazaar go to the many charities vetted and supported by Walker Chapel.  Your dollar is divided between them in a 100% benevolent activity of the chapel.   You can start bringing your stuff mid-September but you can also donate online right now!

Windows Restoration Project

The Sanctuary windows are among the jewels of Walker Chapel.  Discussions here and there have been in play for years; should we replace the windows, what would be acceptable to the Historic Preservation people, what do you think about stained glass?  The joint feeling was put into words recently by one of us, “I … love the clear glass and feel that it's part of the sanctuary's great appeal and, I think, is part of the appeal of that "Congregational" style.”

Cemetery Restoration Project

The Walker Chapel Cemetery is a designated Historical Area dating back to when the chapel was first formed and the land was donated by Robert and Margaret Walker.

Over the years many individuals have made huge improvements that have contributed to the beauty and serenity of the cemetery.  The building of the entrance gates, removal of brambles and vines, adding the entrance patio and bench, the apostle lights, and the care on T-for-Tal and Chapel Day this year all show the care and love we have for this special place in our community.

The Walker grave site is towards the back and is now overgrown with ivy, bushes, and volunteer trees.  It is not the only site in this condition.  Many headstones and grave markers have been toppled by time and weather.  Many of the beautiful mature trees are fighting for their lives as they are choked by English and poison ivy vines sometimes more than 3” thick.

Stop Hunger Now Day

This is one event you never want to miss!  People of all ages and history come together for one wild day of assembling, packaging, and boxing over 10,000 meals to help stop hunger around the world.  So much fun with silly hair nets and lots of music.  Cheers go up when the gong sounds announcing another 1,000 meals in the box.  You will always remember the coordination and speed of the children putting the materials together, the packagers with their scales and staplers, and the sheer determination in the faces of the 5-year olds as then weave in and out of the older children and adults to deliver their packages to the boxing station. You want to be there!  The Stop Hunger Now team has been renamed to Rise Against Hunger, but the mission remains the same wonderful people.  We will be putting up more information next January, but if you can help offset the $3,500 cost, please click here to donate.
